Back To School Picnic
On Friday September 5th, a group of matches, unmatched Littles, and their families from Blair & Huntingdon counties ushered in the school year with a Back-To-School picnic at Canoe Creek State Park. The group participated in a scavenger hunt, limbo contest and a hula hoop relay game. There were also carnival type games for everyone to enjoy. A great dinner of hot dogs and assorted covered dishes were enjoyed by all. All the children in attendance received pencil boxes, notebooks and folders to take to school with them.

Girls’ Night In
On Friday, November 7th, a group of matches attended the 1st Annual Girls’ Night In. The matches were able to test out some Mary Kay makeup and received free makeup samples, courtesy of Alyssa Key. The matches also played ice breaker games and listened to music. A dinner of pizza, vegetables, and fruit kabobs were served. The matches decorated frames and a match picture was taken after the makeup had been applied. Matches were able to take their picture and frame home as a souvenir from the evening.

Hayride
On Sunday, October 14th, a group of matches and unmatched Littles from Blair and Huntingdon counties enjoyed a day at the JB Tree Farm in Alexandria. Bigs and Littles went on a hayride and tried to maneuver their way through the challenging corn maze. All participants also got to pick out their own pumpkin and enjoyed snacks provided by Gail Clapper, Huntingdon’s County Coordinator. Everyone had a great time and we couldn’t have asked for better weather.

Inmates Provide Funds for our Children
Inmates from the State Correctional Institution at Cresson planned and participated in their 5th Annual Marathon, on Saturday, June 21st at the Institution. This event brings together inmates, prison staff, and community members. The Prison Marathon, formerly the PA Inmate Run-a-thon, raises funds, each year, to help support the local Big Brother Big Sister organization. The money raised is donated for youth-focused organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Blair County has been selected over the years, because of the positive services that they provide for the children from the local community.
An awards ceremony was held in October at SCI Cresson. Inmates and staff were recognized for their work and dedication to this annual event. Certificates and plaques were presented to runners completing the event. Special recognition was given to runners completing 13 to 26+ miles during the day. A check for $1,000 was presented to Karen Kelley, Executive Director, of BBBS of Blair County, which is used to help fund the agency’s Holiday Party each year.
